Yes. In 1994 I bought a 1991 Golf GTI 16V for £4000.00.
It was a one owner car with full history bought from a dealer with a 12 month warranty. The book price was £6300.00 at the time.
The reason it was so cheap is because the insurance companies had decided they no longer wanted to cover "hot hatches" and started ratcheting up the premiums.
People were dumping them on the used market in huge numbers and their prices plummeted.
It cost me £600.00 to insure it, but year on year the cost came down and the car prices strengthened. When I changed the car four years later I part exchanged it for an Audi A3 1.8 T sport and got £4200.00 for it. Needless to say that I lost a fortune on the Audi (£14000.00) Ouch.

I also doubled my money on my first car. I paid £75.00 for a cortina mk3 and sold it two years later for £150.00.

Cant be bad.

yes, 2. My second car was a 1991 Ford Escort Ghia 1.4, in perfect condition, with no rust (anyone who knows escorts will vouch that this is rare!), 2 owners since new, 20,000miles on it, first owner was an old woman, who did about 15,000 miles in about 13 years, then the guy i had bought it off only had it for 6 months and put 5k on it. I only paid £800 for it.
My current car is a 1992 VW Golf. I paid £120 for it in november with 2 months tax and 8 months MOT. It hasnt let me down yet, bar a couple of new tyres and some brake pads.

Well my twin brother has gotten very lucky in this way twice !

Most recently he bought a 1999 Ford Mustang GT for $3000.00! Way below market value .... owner was leaving country. My brother heard about the guy through a friend and the owner need a quick sale ... At first he was looking for $5500.00 but my brother kept following up with him .... just a day before the guy was leaving he let my brother have it for the $3000.00 Cash!

A few years ago my twin brothers company was downsizing and he was able to get one of the company cars a for $300.00 it was a 2 year old Hyundai Accent with lots of miles but super clean ! He drove it till he got the Mustang above....He just sold that Hyundai ( still running good to a friend)

Keep your ear to the ground and follow up on any leads and you can get lucky too !

Yes.

I bought a 1984 Camry for $300. The timing belt has broken, but since these cars have non-interference fit engines, I just put on a new belt!

Drove the car for almost 100K before donating it!

in 1980 i was in right place right time.this guy was split n with his wife. he asked if anyone wanted to buy his car, i spoke up 1st, said i'd buy it. i got a cherry 1970 chevell ss 454 cowl injection ss for $50 bucks. drove it every day, raced it at local drag track on weekends, after 3 years blew the motor. traded it for a 1970 mustang mack 1, it had the 429 in it, drove it 5 years same as the chevell. gave it to my little brother, he still has it and it is still cherry.

Yes, but I am cheating. My job involves buying vehicles from businesses fulfilling the above criteria. The benefit to my customers is that I can sell the motors to them still below normal retail prices.
