I heard about peppermint tea and peppermint capsules, probiotics etc. but haven't tried them yet. Have you? Do they work? I need some serios help and I'm tired of going to the doctor for tests and more tests and huge bills that I don't know how I'm gonna pay. this is serious and if you it or love someone who deals with this then you know what I mean. Please help

I hear you...I went to the doctor b/c of stomach problems and he diagnosed me with some prescription (100 bucks for one month supply) and it made me feel worse...the side effects were ridiculous. I don't believe it was Lotronex, but I can't remember the name...the commercial is always on T.V. Anyways, I have been trying to pin point my problem for some time now and I have been looking into celiac disease (a wheat gluten intolerance), IBS is very often the diagnosis people get when they actual have this disease. But, you have to go to the doctor and get a blood test for that and my pocket book is not ready for that. I have been just taking things out of my diet (iratable foods like milk products, grains, vegetables, fruits) and putting them back in slowly to see what makes me feel the worst and what makes me feel better..and I think that is probably the best thing for people out there with IBS should do because there are foods that make it worse or make it better...a long road I know, but it won't cost you your life savings just time. Good Luck!

I was incorrectly diagnosed with IBS for one year before I was CORRECTLY diagnosed with Celiac Disease. THe other poster is right. (and there are at home tests although they arent as reliable. Please see my links for more info or email me if u need info.)
IBS is more often an incorrect diagnosis and should be diagnosed as Celiac Disease. The easiest way to get tested is blood testing, but one must be consumign gluten to be tested. If you absolutely cannot afford the doc u can go on the gluten free diet yourself but it is not advised by any national support group to do so. (In other words, bc I run a support group I cannot endorse self diagnosis but I merely suggest it may be a possibility!!) Basically, if you want to try the Gluten Free diet, try it. Check all meds, foods and studythe links i post below. U will find a ton of info and I"d be glad to help u off Answers with anything else you might want to know.

If you dont get better in several weeks to a month you should see a doc or go back on gluten. You want to rule out any serious problems like crohns, blockages or intestinal problems.
Genetic testing for CD is available, Its costs a couple of hundred but is cheaper than a endoscopy!! It isnt foolproof but cna help. You must have the genes for CD to have CD. (there is a tiny percent of ppl who dont have the genes but its highly unlikely!).
Please see the links and let me know if I can help any more!

I just came back from a seminar on visual imagery. They talked about using visual imagery to help with IBS and other conditions. If you go to www.healthjourneys.com you can see what they have to offer. There is a set of music that is geared for people who have IBS. The product number is #2111
