Your need to keep your food separated is a symptom of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. However it is harmless and it sounds like you manage to function with it. Only two things to watch for:
Recognize that it is your compulsion and don't expect your friends (or the general public) to agree. And if it should start interfering with your daily functioning, contact a professional for help.

When I was little, I had a serious problem with food touching other food on my plate. I even asked for multiple plates/bowls to prevent it from happening. I think it bothered me for three reasons: it was no longer perfect, ruined (had to color in the lines if you know what I mean); and I when I'd eat two different foods together, the taste was other than what I had expected it to be which freaked me out; and it made me feel out of control somehow (probably some OCD tendencies there!lol).
Then one day, someone said "Whats the difference, it all mixes with itself when you eat it anyways?" I thought about it long and hard. People referring to it being in my stomach, just didn't get it. But when I'd eat spaghetti (for example) I'd also take a bite of bread before swallowing the spaghetti - mixing it without realizing it. This realization changed my perception and I was able to see how silly I was being. Now I like to get a plate of food and mix it all up into one big pile. The mind is a powerful thing. Try to think of it while asking true or false questions like, are they really maggots????? no.

Sounds like a great problem what do you do when it reaches your stomach, you would have hated growing up in my parents house as a kid my father was a Military man used to mix it all together and said in training are battle you didn't have time to be picky never knew when your next meal would come. His favorite saying was it is all going down the same hole anyway just eat. OK how do you eat foods like soup, stew, goulash, casserole, lasagna, pizza, spaghetti, hamburger helper, many foods are all mixed up what do you eat. As obsessive and compulsive disorders go this a good one relatively harmless, but it must be fun to watch you eat do you eat each single item till it is gone and then go on to the next.. I think you are not being unreasonably picky it really doesn't matter sounds like a personal thing that won't hurt anything. Probably use alot of dishes to eat though, alot of people are very picky about food

There are especially 2 different problems that could reason this. a million. Obsessive Compulsive affliction. those with OCD or OCD inclinations ought to have or do something a undeniable way. No explaining it, no getting around it. maximum human beings have some, small OCD inclinations yet there are some people who've an severe case of the affliction and it takes over their lives. The nutrients factor is a particularly hassle-free tendency. 2. eating subject concerns. those with Anorexia or people who're in a undeniable degree of Bulimia will attempt to locate any excuse to no longer consume their nutrients. They seek for reasons to no longer consume. If different meals touch one yet another, they see it as an hazard to ruin out with refusing to consume it. If human beings have not got the two of those extreme problems yet they nevertheless can no longer have their nutrients touch, it is in all hazard in elementary terms a small OCD tendency. Or, they do exactly unlike the way it tastes. that's in all hazard the main hassle-free, in basic terms the least extreme :)

Your mother was a sadist ! You poor abused miserable child! You are doomed to a life alone... you will die alone in a cold empty room, unloved and raving against the moon, because of what she did to you!
Truth? I would take you behind the barn and give you a problem to think about. Or maybe force you to watch a few hours of "Save the Children". With a big bowl of the offending food in front of you.
To make my kids get their greens, ie a quiche, I would blend the spinach into the food but my younger girl at the tender age of 1 had already mastered the art of filtering out the green, stashing it in her cheek, then pulling out a wad of green after the meal was done.
Used to crack me up.
I will be honest. If you are serious, I think you might have a touch of OCD. That being said, I once loved a brilliant man who hated this too. He just hated it so I made sure it never happened.

At first I would say you are being picky, but I don't know if I would be able to overcome spinach and rice....
I am weird with my food to though; I will only eat one thing at a time. If I am having chicken, corn and potato salad I will eat all the corn, then all the potato salad and then all the chicken; I can't mix it up...I don't know why

Before the second part of your question.. I was going to call you a big baby.. But after reading about the rice and spinach.. I don't blame you.. How gross to feed a child spinach and rice combo.. Ouch... I'm sure your mother must have really like that to feed it to you.

I'm not crazy about some of my food touching either.....but then I find myself mixing certain foods on my plate. Weird. It's just the way it is, I wouldn't stress. My husband doesn't want his over easy eggs on his plate with his pancakes....yet he then puts the egg ON TOP of the pancake to eat it! What's up with that?? That's just weird. My mom made me eat weird stuff too. What was up with the rice thing?? My mom used to make rice (minute rice, gag) and put it with warm milk, sugar and cinnamon. Ewwwwww. I have nightmares about it to this day. LOL! Don't stress, just enjoy your food, however you like it. ;)

ha, that's funny. me too. when we'd have family get-togethers, it was always a big joke that my grandma would get down this big orange plate that had dividers just for me. i got to use this plate until some of my cousins started having babies...then they got passed down to the children! i'm getting better about it, though!

So, what's the question? That's just a preference, who cares. I can't imagine this is too inconvenient. Although I guess at restaurants it may happen.
