Corrupt spiritual leaders try to influence our behavior with guilt. Regret is a form of guilt.

I'm truly sorry you feel that Christianity is a scam. Regret is something all people have or will have at some point in their life when they realize that they have wasted so much time just trying to be their own God instead of believing in the real one. Regretting the decision you make is not a threat and it is not intended to be. It is simply a fact of life. Just because you don't believe it doesn't make it so any more than my belief makes it real to someone else. God either exists...or he doesn't. From personal experience, I know he does.

I wish the Founding Fathers where here so we could find out what their regrets are.
I'd say Christianity is not even your so-called threat, compared to the REAL THREATS the world has facing it today.

I don't know about the element of regret in regard to Christianity...
Sometimes, I think Christians who are really fervent in their faith want so much for others to be under God's care that they use their OWN (not the Lord's or the Bible's) knowledge to try to "further the kingdom." And we can see right here on Y!Answers just how effective *that* is. Threats of hell, damnation, etc. As if....
I think people who "care" about any threat they perceive are already in the net, whether they know it or not. Especially some atheists on here who are constantly kicking and screaming. I have no doubt I will meet many of them in heaven one day. (O/W, why would they feel so strongly?)
The best story to illustrate how counterintuitive Jesus' REAL ways are, is the story of the thief on the cross. (Remember Christ was only 1 of 3 criminals being crucified that day). The robber on one side of him completely rejected him, but the guy on the other side (who had never done one thing "for" Christ) was told "Today you will be with me in paradise." Why? Because he really believed that was Jesus hanging next to him, just from what he had seen with his own eyes, that one (last) day of his life.
There's nothing that anyone can do to get God to love them more, and fortunately, there's nothing anyone can do to get Him to love them any less.
Human beings can have "regret" about many things, but to me, Christianity offers the hope of relief from all worldly regret, sorrow, suffering, etc., even if it doesn't happen in this earthly life.

We aren't, actually! We told you that Jesus was born of a virgin. We told you that he would never, ever sin. That he rose from the dead, and is alive today. That he is coming back in the sky. What self-respecting scam artist would tell you that? Don't scam artists want you to believe them?

Eternal regret IS the worst threat of God, the One who loves you so much that the last thing He wants is for you to refuse His gift of salvation. That's why He lets you, an unbeliever, perceive it.

In following Christ there is no regret... our past is forgiven and we can move on... we are no longer bound by what happen before and therefore we have no reason to regret these things...
You will be the regretful one... the Devil is the biggest scam artist yet!!

The worst part is that the way they phrase their argument of "morality"; it implies that they need a "threat of Hell" to keep themselves from running around killing and raping.

I suppose we are the best. We are God's elect, chosen before the foundations of the world. I wouldn't attach scam artists to it, but hey--whatev. Thanks for the affirmation.
