The line I'm particularly interested in is under Hematology. It reads: "ABS Lymphocytes 1428 (L) /ul 1500-7000"

Is this a reading that should raise some concern? By the way, my Cat has FIV. She's an 8 year old female in otherwise good health.

Thanks very much for your time:)

Lymphocytes are a wee bit low (<1500)

this is in keeping with a viral infection

it's not something that is going to render her susceptible to all the infectious diseases ... not yet anyway

Lymphocytes are usually the last cell to be involved in infection or inflammation. Their presence indicates a long standing process. An elevated reading would cause concern for a possible lymphoma. A low reading such as yours is usually due to stress or can be due to suppression if your cat is taking a corticosteroid.

I'm thinking it's similar to the white blood count reading in humans. A high number in humans can be cause for concern because it means the immune system is producing high numbers of white blood cells, which indicates some sort of infection. However, I know nothing about what numbers are normal for felines. Your best bet would be to call the Veterinarian and ask them to clarify the results for you.

I have a Cat that has a similar disease called F.H.P. . I also know people whose cats have Feline Leukemia . Mine is doing quite well and you could not buy him from me he is priceless. My Friend just lost her cat that had Feline Leukemia , He lived for 15 years . He finally was so old she had to put him down . He lived with five other cats and they test negative for Feline Aids . The one I have has never caused the other one to pickup F.H.P. I must confess I do not understand the Lab Results. If She was my cat and she is doing okay and is 8 years old and is healthy I would do nothing. Hope this helps .

They are counting the number of lymphocytes-the lower the count the more developed the disease is.
If I read this correct it means average level should be 1500-7000...

What Orinoco said.

Can I just ask why you didn't get the vet who took the test to explain these results to you at the time?
