Efexor takes at least three weeks to start to work properly and yes it can leave you with a dry mouth but this side effect will go in time. You will be on the medication for at least 6 months so keep taking the medication. If after a month you feel no better your doctor may have to alter your dose. You will get better but it takes a while. Hope you have someone you can confide in.

Yes..side effects are many when taking these antidepressants.I have tried many and finnaly flushed them all..thats why the purple haze is in my drain.
It is a crying shame that all doctors do is write scrpits for depression anymore. I would suggest yu to find a faithful reliable friend that can practice tough love and pour your heart out to them..ask your shrink for a therapist if no friend..if you cannot afford the therispist then ask for group therapy you can get it out there. All you need is to talk it out over and over until you see it. Read the four agreements it will help you. Walking is wonderful everyday..excersise is the best prescription for depression and sunshine. Medicine sucks and is so expenisive but it does make a nice color when you wash it down the drain. Please feel better you are not alone..talk it out and read the book excersise..GoD bless you.

I used to be on Efexor. I lost alot of weight on it. I was on it for Major Depressive Disorder. I was on it for about 5 years. When they took me off of it, they immediately put me on something else. The only thing I noticed was weight gain.I think for my first antidepressant it was just right. OK I want to tell you something, Many medical doctors, even in the ER and other people in the community too, if they somehow find out your diagnosis or your medications, they expect you to be crazy, or cause problems, like they have to treat you with kids gloves, or they go the other way because many people do not believe in mental illness, and they try to get you worked up to prove your just like everybody else and its not randomly in your brain. Mental Health Advocacy is very important to people like this. Keep your cool, and explain that while you have some problems, or take such and such medicine, you are still a person and their patient!

I had a truly awful time on Efexor. Coming off of them was like coming off of heroine. Couldn't see properly, totally out of control. Beware! Wean yourself off when you do decide to stop. Best of luck to you. Remember, you may have to try lots of different meds before you find the right one for you.

ive had alsorts of anti-depressants and efexor was the worst one for me, it made ,me feel dizzy sick light headed, im now on fluxotine which has less symptoms, bare with the side effects though they may pass, if you don't feel comfortable with them go straight to your doc.
don't just come off them coz thats what i did and the side effects seem to get worse for a week or so then i went back into my low moods.
hope this helps
take care.x

When I was taking it it made me feel worse. I felt like i was crawling out of my skin. I couldn't sleep I couldn't eat. When i did sleep I would wake up covered in sweat. after a month i stopped taking it. I had to.

I know several people who take this. My friend started awhile back, and I believe, it took her a good month to feel right on the pill physically, which helped her mentally and emotionally. However, I must tell you, the people I know love taking it because it has gotten rid of their anxiety, but one day without it, and they feel like crap.

Please let your doctor know. If this continues much longer it may be a sign that either the dosage is too high or that Effexor is not the medicine for you. The dry mouth will probably get better.
