I was thinking of hunting grouse with those arrows that don't penetrate the bird, just knock it down. Will this bruise the meat? 'Cause I won't be getting any head-shots like with the .22!

My only experience with them is with a .22 magnum with a scope (which unfortunately isn't mine) and it was easy enough. I have a bow, but I'm thinkng about getting a 20 gauge or 12 gauge for these Rough grouse which are plentiful where I live.

That's funny that they jumped the arrows! Maybe I'll get a shotgun....

Oh yeah, and I find they taste like really good chicken. I don't like the Spruce hens which taste like pine needles!

Well good luck , I have tried this and the grouse unbeleiveable jumped 3 arrows I shot at it.

It was 10 yards away and I was deer hunting (grouse season was in)I decided to take a shot . I aimed at its chest released and it jumped my arrow . I drew another and shot, same thing . After the third shot it finially flew off.

I was in shock it actually jumped 3 arrows and it was a fast shooting bow as well.

Ya.. Good luck with that. The last one I shot I blasted twice with a 12 guage from 20 feet and it still lived for another 10 mintues. They are tough little creatures. Also, they taste like a very dry turkey and chicken hybrid. Nothing to get excited about.

Yes it will bruise the meat but not to the point that it is not good to eat. Good luck with shooting one, they are hard enough to hit with a shotgun. Just soak the meat in salt water for a day or two and that will fix the bruised meat right up and take away the blood taste.

watched Fred Bear shoot quail and goose with his bow. If you do this, place on video. Others would enjoy this. You are speaking of flying?
