Let's say for the heck of it that god created everyone and everything....Then why did he create the other planets in our solor system? What's the point, (from a religious standpoint) of having them here? Why create the milky way? Only the earth and mankind would matter to god, right? Then why create the cosmos?

Do you ever scribble in your notebook?

God's not "religious." He created everything for His own joy and glory, not for a "religious standpoint." When I look up at the night sky and wonder at it all, the cosmos is fulfilling a tiny part of its purpose. It's bringing glory to God.

The Bible tells us that God created the great creatures of the ocean, for example, just "to frolic there."

Why does any artist create a great work of art? Just for the pure joy of expression. Why not?

You really think that these things were created for US? Very funny!

All things were created for Christ sake! The cosmos is his playground, and we are his pets!

In God's eyes, the nations are as dust on the scales, as something nonexistent.

How do you like this. The reason the unbelievers will all be destroyed is because any human that doesn't conform to the goal is no better than an animal, a beast in God's eyes. And a Bible scriptures states that animals were created to be caught and destroyed, or to die in their natural cycle.

Perhaps having heavenly bodies to study, even if they are barren, influences our thoughts, society, and art in a particular way which God needs for the fruition of his plan. Maybe it takes the entire universe to just have one tiny spec go right. Honestly, I think trying to parse out the reasoning of a supreme being is an endless and futile exercise.

Looking at the question reminds me of my cat?

It is not as clever as me but gives me affection. The cat sits in my house and is happy and frankly doesnt care about the universe or how much space is out there, why do we?

The problem is we are not clever enough (at the moment) and looking at human history we are not going to get clever quick enough (in my lifetime) to answer this question.

What a pity I do not have the time to wait and get clever enough.

Answer: Be like the cat

Hey now, I never thought of that, wow! Now I understand, there was this big bang and out of it came all of these planets, but the earth was the only planet that got any monkeys. That is why we have human life form and all the other planets don't.They didn't get no monkeys.Aren't we the lucky ones.We got the birds, the bees, the trees, and all living things.Have you sent this theory of yours into "Science World" I believe you'll change the world forever with your deeeep th^in88kin3g.

He created everything for His glory. The beauty of nature and the vastness of space and the wonders of the heavens declare the Lord their Creator.

Psalm 19:1 says, "The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork."

Psalm 97:6 says, "The heavens declare his righteousness, and all the people see his glory."

THIS is why He created the planets and stars... from a religious viewpoint, of course.

Tagan is totally right. everything that was made was to glorify God, in fact WE were made to glorify God!!!!!!!

those planets and stars are a testament to the wonder and power of God almighty! Really, does God need a better reason than that?

More "why did God?" huh... well, maybe just for eye-candy, I speculate. To make His glory known through what is seen through our human eyes.

Romans 1:20-"For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. "

Don't you think that if they were created by Him they have some sort of a divine purpose. I'm sure the entire universe matters to Him. He created worlds without number.

well from a astro physic point of view , to have life on Earth you need a universe that is exactly as big as it is. there are 30 different parameters that need to be met to have life on this planet.much of need of other solar bodys is to produce the right amount of gravity for complex life. going to link you to a website that goes into greater detail of all the parameters.
