Millions of God's children have died of diseases that scientists have since figured out how to prevent or cure. Why didn't God just tell everyone how to prevent or cure these diseases from the beginning? Did He have something against people who were born before the scientific revolution?

And if some Christians are to be believed, all of God's children should be proselyting as much as possible. So if God gave scientists all the answers so that there was little or no important research left to do, wouldn't that allow all those busy scientists to do a lot of religious work instead?

LOL...you'e really approaching this question from the wrong angle.

Whether God exists or not, the fact is that we humans did NOT just appear here on earth with all the answers. (No, I know, we had it but we lost it, because of Adam's sin, but let's move on.) We have had to work for our progress, and the way that we have advanced is by correcting our errors, rethinking things, reconceptualizing our universe. Unfortunately, religion has always had a problem with this, because religion insists that it already has all the answers (even though it manifestly doesn't), and worse, that independent inquiry is heresy. What if new research reveals facts that appear to contradict our millenia-old worldview? We can't have that.

Hence such patent absurdities as "Young Earth" and "Intelligent Design." We have people trying to force new facts to fit in with the ancient framework, rather than accepting that perhaps the men of old time, however intrinsically wise, may have been factually wrong about a few things, and it may be time to reconsider certain aspects of their teaching. To base one's cosmology on Genesis, e.g., is an absurdity akin to addressing one's prayers to Arthur Eddington.

As for what the anonymous gentleman says below about how God prescribed a healthy diet and good hygeine - well, yes and no. "God," i.e. the priests, saw that pork etc was killing people. They may not have understood the mechanisms of disease themselves, but they knew that the people would not abstain unless they backed up their prohibition of pork with divine authority. This was inevitably elevated into a universal law; with the result that people continue to abstain from pork today, when it is perfectly safe to eat in most cases, on "religious" grounds. In this sense, "religion" is simply outmoded tradition, the original, practical reasons for which have been forgotten.

You are assuming that God has not revealed anything to benefit our lives from a health perspective. This is wrong to say because as many scientists will testify, kosher diets are one of the most healthy diets. There was a reason that God did not want his people eating pork, shellfish, or even maintaining good hygene. Although the reasonings at the time were purely spiritual, we have found out that it was the best choice to make a person healthy.

You also assume that science is the only way to discover truth. This is also wrong. Science seeks to discover/explain HOW things are the way they are. Faith/Religion seeks to discover/explain WHY things are the way they are. They are at two different ends of the spectrum, academically speaking.

First, all of this stems from the challenge brought upon Gob by Satan the devil. The account involving Job. Satan was questioning God's sovereignty and his right to rule. Suggesting that humans would be better off ruling themselves, and not serving him.

Well, all that you mentioned: the diseases that scientists have found cures to, these have come about by men not abiding by the rules of God.
When God gave the Israelites simple rules such as to dig a hole and cover up one's excretement, this was to guard them against diseases. If only man would listen!!!

The answers to all of mankinds problems are in the Bible. Scientists themselves take from the Bible. They also take from God's creation to make or invent new 'creations.'

You are confusing God with allowing things to happen for His own reasons, with God causing or making things happen. God does not cause bad things to happen. That is not the kind of God He is. Your post makes not sence at all.

Scientists and Doctors as well are all finding out that there is an Higher power/creator. More and more doctors today, pray to God before they opperate on a patient. God will allow everyone to travel on their own, so that they can find out that God is very real. And there will be a day when every knee shall bend and call Him Lord!

Romans 14:11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.

God does not cause harm or make bad things happen. satan has that market cornered.

God works through our gifts and talents. He IS our gifts and talents. As far as scientists doing religious work, I doubt it. Scientists need PROOF of everything so many don't believe in religious matters or God. Life is life. A time to mourn and a time to dance. Without grief, joy would not be so glorious.

God's power is meaningless without an instrument to channel it through, which are us humans
God's mind is available to all, and scientists benefit the MOST from God's mind, because they question the universe on a daily basis

God isn't a genie.

God does cure the ill, feed the starving, spread peace and so on.

He does it through His tools on Earth, humanity. We are created in His image, we are assigned to love each other, and it's up to us to do His will to the best of our ability.

And yes, I'd prefer it if He did it all Himself, and leave us to sun ourselves on infinite sunny beaches. But that isn't the way it works. Sorry.

I'm not the "pray and God will make you rich" type of Christian. I'm not the "wait for the Rapture" type either. They both make me ill in fact. I'm the "I don't care what you call yourself, help someone! " sort.

Science cannot create knowledge & wisdom. It is dependant on the knowledge given to mankind.

Science is a medium to get results based on human observations. Science cannot deny the creator of universe! Otherwise it would be more difficult to know the existance of this universe?

Because Truth doesn't come to a person sitting on a sofa eating potato chips. One has to go out and find Truth. You know, Seek and ye shall find.
