The decay is always there, you try to cover it with your religion because it unnerves you.

Since Machiavelli wrote it he probably meant it lead to a loss of control of the authorities over the sheep. A lessening
of the power of the few to manipulate the masses. People would start using their God given brains to think for themselves. The truth will set you free. That's bad news for
authoritarian types.

Machiavelli was not someone that we should admire much. I suppose that when he said decay he meant free of thought and loss of control for the governing classes.

There is nothing sure sign of decay in one country than to witness that religion is in contempt.

I totally disagree.
I can only cite: The Crusades, Northern Ireland, Iraq, the current troubles in India and Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tamil, Dar fur, Kurdistan, Mali, and so many more where killing people is good if they are not your same, exact religion.

That is true for anything. Freedom of worship is in fact a basic building block in our society. It is sad though to see this Freedom abused by many religious leaders nowadays to ignite hate and wars.

Take God out of schools, in comes the idiots with machine guns, rifles, drugs, etc...
Take God out of our lives and our country, in comes the idiots trying to enslave us to an immoral thought process which EVERYthing is OK-which it is NOT.
...One Nation UNDER GOD...where did that go?
