We have had forged papers. Tonya sunbom - puppymiller in Kentucky was forging papers and even after the akc told her and charges were pressed she was still doing it. Its hard to catch. She costs us a lot of time and energy.

Akc used to have a site to check Ill see if I can find it but its been a while. I am glad you are thinking and not just believe that because its in writing its legit. Good for you.

A 3 generation pedigree is NOT a registration. In order to register your dog you need either the individual registration application from the breeder or a registration certificate with the transfer section filled out and signed by the seller.

Unless the pedigree is a sealed document form the AKC, UKC (United Kennel Club) or CKC (Canadian Kennel club) (or a well respected reputable regisrty from another country) there is no way of knowing for sure if it's genuine or not.

First of all, you don't say which organization the animal is supposed to be registered with, so I will have to explain from an AKC point of view. You should have been given a registration/litter application when you got the dog. There is a HUGE penalty for waiting past the one year birthdate to register a dog, so you need to be prepared for that.
A pedigree is simply that, a pedigree. It is not proof of registration of any kind. IF the animal is registered, then you can request (for a fee) a pedigree from the AKC to verify parentage and history.
If the dog is a pet, I would forego the registration altogether as the cost is going to be high at this point, and just neuter him and enjoy him as your pet.
You can also contact the breeder for more information and I would surely ask why he wasn't registered as a puppy.

Unless the parents were AKC registered then no you cant register them with AKC.
Your right in the thinking that the breeder could just write anything down of a paper but if you did your homework before you purchased the pup and really got to know the breeder than maybe all is what it appears. There is no way to find out if all is true or not.
Now if your breeder was a very good one I see no reason why they did not register the pups in the first place. I think your pups may have been from a breeder who just didn't care about that sort of thing. Or just couldn't register them in the first place.
They are probably all forged.

The paper listing the three generations is a PEDIGREE. It's the genetic history of the dog. In order for you to register him, BOTH parents and the LITTER must have already been registered. Along with the pedigree, you should have been given the registration papers to fill out and send in to the AKC.
