I just flew this weekend and here's the deal:

It's a matter of bringing it through security checkpoints. If you have unopened food, you can bring that (from home) You may not have any bottled beverages brought from home. They will confiscate it.
As soon as you are through the checkpoints, you may purchase any aiport food and drink you desire and bring it onto the plane.

Don't forget about the quart size ziplock bag with your toiletries of 3 oz or less. This includes liquid makeup, hair products, etc. If you have ANYTHING that is more, including the bag, THEY WILL TAKE IT AWAY!!
Remember, you put ANY of these things of regular size in your checked bags, the information I gave you is for carry-on only.
Happy travels!

Do not plan on taking drinks on a plane. Drinks are supplied. Most foods are allowed. I have taken fruits, dried and fresh; and nuts and candy. I was on a no-meal flight to Hawaii and took a large burritos on the plane. On the return flight, I took a Japanese bento.
