I think this is very sad as well. I am 21 years old and always doing my family tree and trying to find out more about my heritage. None of my friends are this way though. In the old days, kids sat around their grandparents listening to old family stories and were so interested in them. Today they'd rather sit in front of the TV and play video games. I think we're losing something very valuable with this. :(

They exposed to many heritages and pop culture during their life. If the family does not make their unique heritage a focus in their life, they lose it. It is possible to assimilate the culture you live in and still hang on to where you come from.

don't forget, your culture is not necessarily their culture, culture is defined by where you live as well. Not just your roots. Their culture is obviously reflecting this, keep them aware of their heritage, but also remember children are very impressionable, they are not ungrateful, more so ignorant.

well they choose not to be so worried about it. kids do what other kids do, music, language, even accents just to be cool. let them be kids as long as they don't hurt anybody and they don't pick up bad attitudes. you know your heritage and culture well teach it little by little and catch their attention.

Because the parents don't enforce their culture and don't teach the children their culture when they move somewhere new.

Their culture is made up of the experiences & memories of *their* lives. They haven't forgotten it. It's just different from yours.
