If Christians truly believe the Bible is the word of God, then why do so many of them eat bacon, pork, etc.
I have never seen anything in the Bible that permits the eating of the flesh of swine after it has been forbidden in the Book of Leviticus (and by the way, I do know the Bible, I used to be a Christian)
Don't tell me that this is from the old times or whatever....If the Bible is the Word of God, who would dare to go against it, whether it be based on the past, present or the future.
Some Christians come out with some rubbish that "this and that" are based on olden times and doesn't apply to today.....but surely, if it's 'the Word of God' don't you think God would have set commandments from the time of revelation of the Bible to the end of time, to never be altered, and to forever be adhered to, until the Day of Judgement.
Genuine answers only, if at all possible.....

To Primoa1970: Thankyou for posting the verses, but it doesn't specifically mention that the flesh of swine has been made lawful......so is this enough evidence?
In the religion of Islam, the Qur'an; which was revealed some 600 years after the Bible; states that the flesh of swine is still forbidden as it was forbidden to Jews and Christians. So it makes more sense to me that the flesh of swine has always been forbidden, since the time of Moses (or possibly before, God knows best), and until the present day it has not been made lawful.

To Meg M: Yes, the Old Testament refers to Jewish Law, but it is part of the entire Bible which is the Book for Christians......if you don't follow the Old Testament, then why say it is part of the Bible, why claim the Bible is the Word of God if you are gonna pick and choose what you follow, and what you don't follow.

Leviticus chapter 11 lists the dietary restrictions God gave to the nation of Israel. The dietary rules were never intended to apply to anyone other than Israel. Jesus later declares all foods clean (Mark 7:19). God gave the apostle Peter a vision in which He declares concerning formerly unclean animals, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean” (Acts 10:15). When Jesus died on the cross, He put an end to the Old Testament law (Romans 10:4; Galatians 3:24-26; Ephesians 2:15). This includes the laws regarding clean and unclean foods.
Romans 14:1-23 teaches us that not everyone is mature enough in their faith to accept the fact that all foods are clean. As a result, if you are with someone who would be offended by you eating “unclean” food – you should give up your right to do so as to not offend the other person. We have the right to eat whatever we want, but we do not have the right to offend other people, even if they are wrong. For the Christian in this age though, we have freedom to eat whatever we wish as long as it does not cause someone else to stumble.

Jesus said ''it is not what goes into a man's mouth that defiles him, but what comes out of a man's mouth that defiles him.'' there are various other verses. paul wrote that all food is good so long as it has been consecrated. i grew up on a farm. i know that it takes a lot more knowledge than a person would think in order to cure a ham, to prevent botchilism and other diseases. i really do think that God knew people weren't yet advanced enough to protect themselves from such diseases. by the time the new testament was written, people had made the necessary advances. i really do think that has something to do with it. after all, God created the natural world. i don't think He would command us not to eat certain foods without a good reason. there are reasons for every other command in the bible. and remember what the very word ''unclean'' can mean... diseased. i'll come back later and site the verses i mentioned. lol.
k, i'm back...

Even in this day and age there are warnings about the cooking of the flesh of various animals when we buy at our modern supermarkets and cook it on our controlled heat stoves. The nomadic writers of the old testament did not have microscopes nor anything like a medical establishment to find the parasitic and other diseases that various animals carried, but by empirical evidence they knew these animals caused sickness. The people of the New testament were not all that much more advanced, but their cooking equipment was much more advanced and enough evidence had been accumulated by Non-Hebrew peoples to prove proper cooking was the key to keeping down disease.
Manifestations by God were not needed, but the Bible writers do have a tendency to take credit for everything they can to glorify their God. Apparently some orthodox Jews and all the Muslims haven't caught up with reality yet.

Primoa19 is right. In Peter's vision God told him to kill and eat and Peter said he would never eat anything unclean. God told him not to call anything He made unclean. As far as it being OT, it was. There are a lot of laws that were done away with when Jesus came and the new covenant took effect. Read Leviticus sometime and then be thankful we don't have to follow all of those laws. There were laws pertaining to mildew in the house and what they had to do. Eating pork isn't the only thing that changed.

Apart from the Acts 10 passage already mentioned, there is Mark 7:14-23
including "...thus he declared all foods clean"
Doesn't get much clearer than that, if you accept the bible.
As for commandments changing, well, in Genesis mankind was meant to be vegetarian, but after the flood (some) meat is specifically authorised.
But then I'm an atheist who knows his bible.

My parents - the pastors - have told me that when Jesus came he declared that the past laws were void because everyone was saved by his love and sacrifice on the cross. Anyway - I know he didn't say anything of the sort. I DO know that others wrote that he said that. I haven't found any direct quote from jesus himself thus far.
Don't get me wrong - I love Jesus just as I love Muhammad.

In the book of Acts (Acts 10:9-16), Peter has a vision of a white sheet coming down from heaven with all sorts of unclean animals on it and is commanded to eat it. He doesn't want to because of what the Law trained him to do. But the voice from heaven says, "What God has made clean, do not call unclean"
What God calls clean.....is truly clean
And besides...our salvation is not based on what we eat, it is based solely on the atoning blood of Jesus Christ
Here are the verses:
9 About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray
10 He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance.
11 He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners.
12 It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles of the earth and birds of the air.
13 Then a voice told him, "Get up, Peter. Kill and eat."
14 "Surely not, Lord!" Peter replied. "I have never eaten anything impure or unclean."
15 The voice spoke to him a second time, "Do not call anything impure that God has made clean."
16 This happened three times, and immediately the sheet was taken back to heaven.

For I have never eaten anything common or unclean." 15)And a voice spoke to him again the second time, "What God has cleansed you must no call common."
