I served 22 years in the navy. Believe it or not, serving your country, be it for a couple years or for a career, does not entitle a person to lifetime housing.
Unless there's some physical or mental problem people should provide for themselves. It's about personal responsibility.

If the veteran is working then no. The veteran can wait tables, pick tomatoes and lettuce just like the illegal alien does so he can earn enough to earn a living. If he isn't willing to do this, then yes, it is as right for a vetern as it is for anyone else to be homeless. Veterans should have no special rights against being homeless. If they can't earn a living, then it must be like Reagan said, the homeless want to be homeless.

Yes it is right if the veteran is a drunk and the illegal alien is a hard-working sober person. Any person who works hard and doesn't spend their money on drugs and alcohol deserves to have a roof over their heads. The fact that someone served in the military does not mean that we have to support them for life.
I agree with Old Hippy, if there were no jobs, then the illegal alien would be in the street and would return to his country. The fact that he is here means there are opportunities that the homeles veteran either can't or won't take advantage of. That's just life.

Depends on the circumstances. I am a vet myself but anybody who does not work will end up on the streets. Anyone who works hard will end up with a house. Now if the vet is not able to work that is a different story. As far as the illegal alien if I did not have a job in the US and I knew that I could get one in Canada that would feed my family. I would cross that border in a heartbeat. Much of the unemployment in Mexico is caused by American farm subsidies. You can buy American corn in Mexico city cheaper than the local farmers can grow it. People will always go were the work is. If you want to stop illegal aliens then stop hiring them. If there is no work they will not come. It is just about as simple as that. If you think that they live so very well when they come to this country go to south Arkansas and visit a migrant labor camp. Or go to north Arkansas and see how the workers at Tyson chicken plants live. Some illegal aliens work hard and do well but most are overworked and abused. Don't take my word for it go and look for yourself.

Actually its not right for anyone to be homeless regardless of if they are a veteran or not And what does being illegal have to do with someone being homeless? I believe the fault lies with the government who doesn't do enough to support veterans. As i have stated once before I am all for supporting the elderly and veterans but I have issues with supporting women in their teens and 20's who are on welfare with 10 kids. Now that to me is unfair. And note that i didn't mention the legal status. If someone has a job and house regardless of their legal status that's no business of mine, they must have worked hard to obtain it. That is like me being upset because my neighbor bought a new car or boat, its none of my business.

Your question is not so straight forward, is the veteran homeless through his or her choice, what are the circumstances of the veteran, do they have family who could help them.
There is a veterans Association whose job it is is to help such people.
The USA was built upon "aliens" including illegal ones who helped to work and build up the USA, I believe the uSA is large enough and strong enough to help both.
It has no right to pick and choose, where help can be given, after all are not nearly all US citizens aliens to the country, the true American being the native Red Indian who has been kept down and treated like dirt.

No, but it's unfortunate that anyone is homeless. Whether they are an illegal immigrant or a purple heart winning veteran. Once a person becomes homeless, it's hard to get a job.

I don't think veterans fought for the American way, so that they could return to become wards of the state.
I don't imagine the veteran and the illegal alien were competing over the job.

I don't think any American should be homeless at all, especially veterans who put their lives on the line for this country. The government doesn't seem to care about the legal Americans anymore, all they seem to care about is not offending the ones who don't even belong here. Some changes need to be made, and we need to voice our opinion and stop catering to illegals.

It isn't right for any US citizen to be homeless but there are times that the homelessness is due to drugs and mental illness. A friend of mine has a daughter who stopped taking her medications and is now living on the streets. She has the legal right to refuse medications.
