Even Darwin said that Evolution would be proven true in the future by the billions of yet undiscovered intermediate species (missing links) that would have to exist for evolution to work.
Update 2007: Theres a guy in China with a dremmel tool etching feathers on a lizard fossil and claiming to find the missing link from dinos to birds.
Evolution "Scientists" have committed so many frauds trying to prove evolution. (Piltdown Man, Nebraska Man ect.)They have no credibility with me and I am not all that religious.
For evolution to be true the missing links would have to be the overwhelming majority of the fossil record but instead they are either extremely rare or non existent.

"If evolution is true, then how come over 40% of people in America don't believe in it?"
Because they are brainwashed by christianity that "God" made the universe.
"Do you honestly think that many people could be stupid?"
Not stupid, just brainwashed.
"I have studied this "theory" and it doesn't take a genius to see that it can't be true."
Ok, if it "doesn't take a genius" then prove that its wrong without quoting the bible.
"Go to a creationist website. They prove that it isn't true. Mainstream scientists ignore this evidence though. The problem with scientists is they only pay attention to evidence that supports it and the ignore the evidence that says it isn't true."
There is no evidence NOT based on religion that this isn't true. There isn't any scientific proof that the universe was created by a spook too.
"Agree?"
No, this is just stupid.

"If evolution is true, then how come over 40% of people in America don't believe in it?"
Because this is an incredibly religious country. The entire rest of the world has no problem with it.
"Do you honestly think that many people could be stupid?"
'Stupid' isn't the right word. But could that many people be wrong? Sure. If you're a Christian, then you also think that the other 4.5 BILLION people on the planet who aren't Christians are wrong, don't you?
"I have studied this "theory" and it doesn't take a genius to see that it can't be true."
I dare you to go to the science section and post some of the problems you have with the theory so those guys can hear it. They'd answer all your questions, trust me.
"The problem with scientists is they only pay attention to evidence that supports it and the ignore the evidence that says it isn't true."
I could not possibly disagree more. You're COMPLETELY misunderstanding science. Scientists don't just try to prove a theory, they try to DISprove a theory. They set up scenarios to try and test certain things to see if they can prove it wrong. That's what makes science so great. If there was legitimate evidence that actually went against evolution, scientists would have no problem studying it -- but it doesn't exist.
And in any case, do you really believe that any competent scientist would hesitate at the chance to disprove and demolish one of the most widely-accepted theories in science? If any scientist could prove how evolution is incorrect, and demonstrate how 99% of the scientific community has it wrong, he'd win fame, fortune, and awards left and right. It would be one of the greatest scientific developments of our time. So how come no one's stepping forward to take advantage of that opportunity?

Truth is not a democratic process, Jerry. You're doing nothing here but rehashing the Argumentum ad Populum, but in reverse.
1. X% of people do not believe that Y is true.
2. Therefore, Y is false.
"Do you honestly think that many people could be stupid?"
Yes, Jerry. All of those people are Christians who believe in a literal interpretation of Genesis/the Bible. Sorry, but that IS stupid. A few centuries ago, you could ask "If the earth is round, then why do 67% of people not believe this?"
"I have studied this "theory" and it doesn't take a genius to see that it can't be true."
No... apparently, it takes a moron. Thank you for proving my point.
"Mainstream scientists ignore this evidence though. The problem with scientists is they only pay attention to evidence that supports it and the ignore the evidence that says it isn't true."
Does anyone else see the glaring irony with this statement? I know the regulars do, and it is my hope that one of you succinctly points it out for our mistaken friend here.

No, although there are some seemingly logical creationist arguments. Mainstream science does not ignore the evidence, it just disproves it as new evidence come to light There are a lot of problems with creationist theories some are good though and worthy attempts and some completely refelect extreme religious agenda. Unfortunately it is the people with a strong religious agenda who sometimes twist facts around.

>The majority of Christians are still opposed to the ideas behind the theory of evolution. This is a fact that really should not need much research. Really? A minimum of research on my own nation, Denmark, shows the exact opposite. While about 80% of the population are Christians (nominally at least), acceptance of evolution is also at about 80%. That means, at the very least, 75% of the Christians accept evolution. I suspect your opinion is influenced by a myopic focus on your own brand of Christianity. EDIT: >there are things swimming in the ocean that could easily be called dinosaurs. A squid, many kinds of algae, etc Maybe you should stop talking now. It's getting embarrassing.

40% of people in America are dumb. More than 40% of Americans can't even find their own country on a map of the World so I wouldn't get too worked up about numbers. Truth is not decided by majority vote - it's either true or it isn't. Not so long ago 100% of people thought the World was flat; now only the same 40% of Americans do that believe in creationism.

And still you are pitting "theory" in quotations.
I'd say the reason in America for the lack of understanding and acceptance of the THEORY is because nearly all Americans (98%) of believe in a god. More to the point, nearly 25% are Christians who take the Bible as the literal word of god.
In this country, we take things to the extreme. Eating, drinking, fads, you name it. And yes religion, too. Within that phenomenon, people are afraid to look at what IS because it might challenge their beliefs (any rational person could find a way to meld the two, but whatever..that takes effort and an open mind)
Our nation is a laughing stock because of shameful situations like in Kansas insisting on equal time in science for creationism...which is not science at all.
The answer to your question is: yes, I do think people can be that stupid... and stubborn.
And no I do not agree to your claim that scientists only look at what supports their theory. If that is what you think, you need to study a bit more about what science really is.
I am so grateful that not everyone finds conflict between religion and science. There is hope for us yet! http://www.greenvilleonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060307/OPINION/603070304/1016

Yes. Of course I do. And the rest of your question is pretty solid evidence that people can be that stupid. In particular, you point to creationist websites. If creationism were true, why would there need to be so many propaganda sites trying so desperately to fool people into believing in it?

For your well-being, I hope you're a troll.
(If you're not, that's frightening)
You base your argument on 40% of Americans, thereby ignoring 60% of Americans? (taking your figure)
Even if democracy applied to truth you'd be refuting your own stance!
I know no-one who has arrived at the conclusion that Creationism is a better theory who had not decided that before they started out, or on other grounds than the biological, cosmological and geological evidence alone.
So if there is bias, and there probably is since we're limited and human, it cuts both ways. Why should you consider the creationist sites exempt from bias?
