I do work from home and would like a number of different people to be able to go onto this forum and enter a job or a fix that I need to to sort out that I can tick it off and they can see that it has been done... Any ideas?

Most Internet Service Providers give you a free webpage. From there you can build your page and there is usually a tool to help you make it. ( there should be an option to add Forums to your webpage)

Like i have comcast and i get a free webspace.Where i have a calender , events, forums. blogs. etc....
Hope it helps

I am currently using the e107 CMS (http://www.e107.org/). It is a complete Content Management System, but it comes with a forum plugin which works much the same as most forum software out there. It also has download/upload areas, news system, chatbox (not quite the same as Java chat, but it works very well), and other goodies that work out of the box.

There are many downloadable plugins for the e107, including bug trackers, address books, etc. I suppose you are talking about a way to organize the work? I am using this system for my web dev crew. I use it to set up customers' sites, as well as to centralize organization of my own crew.

One of the nicest things about this system (as with most CMS packages) is that you can have absolute control over who can do what on the site. You can also restrict access to the entire site or some sections to members / admins / main admins only. If you restrict the whole site to members only, and someone comes to the site, a login box pops up (regardless of the URL used to access the site), and no one can access the content before s/he has logged in.

Check it out: http://team88.prophp.org/

It's our test site, and you cannot see the site (except the login box).

I've used invisionfree message boards for some time. You can set up the board so that only members who have logged in can actually see the message board, or you can have it open for everybody. You can also have it set up so that certain members can only see certain parts (for example, have three groups, but each group can only see their specific area), or you can have an area that is hidden from everyone except a small group.

The board requires no programming knowledge, is easy to set up, free, and has unlimited bandwidth.
