I'm sorry, David M, but you've got it the wrong way round!:

Great Britain is the island that includes Wales, Scotland and England. It's basically a geographical term, although it's also generally considered to include a few smaller surrounding islands, like Anglesey and the Isle of Wight, which means the definition is close to being political.

The United Kingdom is known in full as the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It is a purely political term.

First, if you look at the bottom of the page it has United Kingdom and the Union Jack (the flag)

Just to clarify:
Great Britain = the land mass ie. England, Wales and Scotland
United Kingdom = Great Britain and Northern Ireland (not the Republic of Ireland - that is totally seperate.)

They are slightly different things.

Actually the UK isn't Great Britain. England, Wales and Scotland is Great Britain, whereas all those plus Northern Ireland is the UK!

Well, it is because great britain has an other name called uk. Uk stands for United kingdom. That's the way people calls Great Britain.

But, I still prefer Great Britain.
