Well it's certainly not illegal provided you continue to use both.

You can open a saving account with an ATM card at any bank. The problem is the Bank Manager at each branch does not understand the rules. Some will say no you need a work permit while another branch from the same bank will say ok. So just try until one says yes. I use Bangkok Bank and Krung Thai Bank, K bank is also good. My advise is stay away from Siam City Bank, many more fees and lower Baht to dollar rate then other banks. All banks have fees which are almost all the same because they belong to the same banking organization. There are no fees for deposits or withdrawal, you do pay a small transfer fee if you do an international wire transfer. Interest rate is very very low nothing to get excited about. I wire money to my Bangkok Bank account every month from the USA, and never have a problem my US bank charge $20 fee and Bangkok Bank charge 200 baht fee. To open an account, have your passport, a Thai friend to verify your a upstanding person, and money to deposit into the account.

Hello,
You may have as many bank accounts as you like, even two student accounts. You won't be allowed to hold both of these with the one bank however. If you open a current account a credit score is carried out because it is possible to have an overdraft on them and a cheque guarantee facility. Each bank has different credit scoring systems and you wouldn't have been offered the accounts if it wasn't acceptable or legal. Just be very careful when it comes to paying back the debt, generally you will be given only one year after your course ends to pay back the money so if you have two overdrafts this may be harder.

Ha ha ha, I did that - Abbey and Natwest. Still paying them off. Be careful, one day you will graduate and you will have to pay off twice the amount. I told the 2nd acount that I didn't take the student loan as I was financially secure, but I wanted to open an an acount because I needed a safety net. It worked and I was a lot more comfortable but I regret it now. That was in 2003!!! Strewth.

So long as you are honest** when you apply for the 2nd (or subsequent) account you can have as many as they will grant you.

** account application form will have a question like 'Do you have any other accounts / credit cards / loan agrrements etc. etc. ?'
