There are advantages and disadvantages to each way of life...
I lived in apartments for half of my life and it was always easy to get the landlord to fix something that broke and have no upkeep to pay on or do to the apartment...
On the other hand, I have now been a homeowner and I also see that I have to pay for all repairs on anything that goes wrong...
And believe me, things go wrong right and left and when you least expect them to, and you are the one responsible for the repair...
Wait till you have a home several years and find out you have termites or water damage or paint peeling or need new plumbing or fixtures...
Wait till you have to purchase lawn equipment and keep your yard up to match the neighbour's...
Take a trip through Home Depot and look at prices of anything you need to repair your home and you may find living in an apartment is more worth it...

I'm sure there are people who live in flats or apartments who wish to have their own house but due to financial reasons, they're unable to do so. However, i'm sure there are people who prefer flats and apartments due to other reasons like personal preference. I live in a $260,000(excluding all renovation and interior decoration works) luxury apartment. I prefer it to a house. Something small and cozy but very well decorated inside. That's my own preference. My home has interior water features and a bar and living in a high level, i get to see the scenery far and wide. So i think it's due to financial reasons or personal preference that people live in flats/apartments than houses.

i know the feeling...try to save money....i bought a home 20 yrs ago and i like having a yard
