I'm not a kid, i'm 19, but i wonder. Do they just audition or something? I'm pursuing a career in this field and wonder can I get to play a part in anything before I get a degree? Would it be like a job? ...erm, what's an acting career? Do i got to go to acting school, just like nurses and paralegals might go to med school or law school?

Okay okay, i got too many questions. In summary, what steps would be typically taken in getting acting as a career?

Many of them take acting classes and workshops to help them with character development, improv, and audition technique. They have agents that send them out on auditions and parents that drive them everywhere they need to be and buy them new headshots every 6 months to a year.

It's actually not much different for adults except you have to do everything yourself and have a way to pay for it. If you're in college you can probably very easily get work in student films at your school. It's a way to get experience, but not very likely to pay. If you have the time, it would be beneficial to take classes and workshops. I don't know where you're located but LA (Hollywood) is the place to be for film & tv. Take a look at workingactors.com, click on actors, then training. There's lots of good info on this site.

If you want to find a legitimate agent to represent you for commercials, TV & film go to SAG.org. Use the dropdown menu on the right labeled 'resources' and choose 'agent information'. On the next screen, on the left choose 'Find a SAG franchised agent' and follow the directions.

Then you can send them your headshot, resume, and a cover letter stating that you are seeking representation and wait to see if they call you in for an interview.

Once you have an agent, they will get you the auditions, but until then you can check out actorsaccess.com. For theatre, you can go to backstage.com or http://www.actorsequity.org/castingcall/... If you find the audition on the Equity site, you still may be able to go, as long as their not taking appointments from equity actor's only :-) On backstage.com you have to pay to get all of the info, but the initial search is free and you may be able to see enough info to find out the rest on your own without paying OR you can go to your local bookstore or newsstand and look at their print publication (new every Thursday) for free. Good luck!

You don't always need to go to acting school; some people are just born with the natural talent to do it. Acting school does help though. It teaches you the thing's you'll know as well as some values many people forget still exist in today's world. I started my acting career just last year, never had any classes or anything; I just auditioned because my friend thought I'd be good at it. That first show I got to play the lead role in "Mother Hicks." While some people struggle to get in, others get in right away, it's just a matter of luck and knowing what your doing. I love it so much and I never want to stop, I've attend many acting classes to straighten up some of the things I do, and it also gives me something to do and learn more things.

Just go to a community theatre while their holding an open call; they usually put the notices in the paper. I would consider going to get a degree in theatre or film, it will help you in the long run and separate you from the rest of the applicants. It is sorta like a job; you go to work and do a show, you get paid for it if you have a degree and the theatre agrees to pay you. An acting career is just like any other career, but it's more rewarding and exciting.

Enroll in acting school.

Go to college and Major in Theatre. After that, go to a University and get an MFA (Master of Fine Arts) in Theatre. Talent Agents and Casting Agents like to see an MFA Degree on résumés.

Some people do go on to college to pursue a degree in Theatre, which adds a bit of credibility to yourself. But if you just want to go straight into it, they do hold open casting calls (i.e. Casting America) where you can go and audition to be a model, be in commericials, TV shows etc.

there is no such thing as an "acting/modeling school" that isnt a scam... a lot of actors actually went to high school/college for theater and preforming arts..... try that.
