Hi,there!
The first time I got mine, I changed it quite a lot too....
It is just for the first few times and then after that you will get used to it...
Go to the bathroom every hour and check on it...
Change it if you have to, but don't worry about it all the time... sometimes stress can make it worse or give you hectic cramps!
It will keep coming for about 3 days and after that it will get less and less, but because it is the first time, go to the bathroom every hour or so, just to check on it!
Good luck with it and ask if you have any other questions!

Congratulations on starting. My very first period came in the middle of the night while I was trying to sleep. It is normal to have to go to the bathroom alot during the day especially for the first few periods or so.
My period was always a constant trickle and I had to change my pad about every 3 hours. I still have to now when I am dealing with periods.
This is not a silly question at all and it's natural to be a bit nerouvs and worried about having this because it's a new change for your body but it will become more regular and you'll know as one of the other posters said more ore less how often you will have to go and what kind of a flow you will have when it's regular.
To find out more about periods you can also check out the information at the website for a brand of pad called Always which is found at: http://www.always.com
They have some excellent info there that can also help answer any other questions you may still have that you didn't ask your mom as well.

Blood can come out at any time when you have your period. Sometimes it's a constant trickle and sometimes it will stop for a while and then a lot will come at once. As others have said, the heaviest flow usually comes during the first few days. As for having to change your pad four times in a day, that's perfectly normal. I've started leaking after like two hours before. Don't worry--periods are a pain, but you'll get used to them.

Welcome to the next 40 years for you. Your period may go from 3-10 days depending on your body. If you exercise you do not bleed as much or get as bad cramps. Best book to look up all of this is EVERY WOMAN. You may not get it every month at the same time for the first few years. Now that you have your period make sure that you clean that area well so you dont get any unnecessary problems.
Congratulations on becoming a woman :)

the first one can last anywhere from 5 to 7 days or longer! It can be frustrating but remember, it's the first time, it should get better with time. if you are really concerned try using a tampon, Or even consulting your GYNE to go on the pill. The pill can help regulate your cycle, and it can make it shorter too. Sometimes it only lasts for 3 days on the pill. and you always know exactly when it will come. But remember with any medication there are side effects.

Of course you don't sound silly. Most people's periods last around 5 days. I believe the normal is between 3-7 days, so everyone is different. You will probably have a lighter flow as your period starts to end. It is hard to tell on your first period. It will probably take several months for you to figure out what is normal for you.

Poor you! I know it's really scary the first time but flow levels can change. On your first few days of your period you will probably have a more heavy flow and therefore need to change your pad more often.
If this is a problem for you I suggest tampons. You can buy super size for your heavy days and regular or mini for your light days.

you dont sound silly. its normal. a period is a constant thing. it comes at a constant rate, and i always got mad when people said congrats! because i didnt think it was somthing to be happy about and i wore tissues in my underwear the whole time. if the pad is just a little bloody you can keep using it, if it is covered with blood is when you should ask your mom or doctor about it.

Congraulations on becoming a woman, it's normal for a first time to go through so many. Be patient, here's a tip every time you have your period mark it down on your calendar to keep track. Also, periods usually last anywhere between five and seven days.
Oh, take tylenol or ibuprofen for cramps.
