lol, i hear ya Devotchka! but then....i've not been at peace w/my name at all. i've just invented a nic name that sound nothing like it and live in denial! *my name is Jennifer, my nic is Jae (like Jay), it's just the first letter spelled out. :p*

I hate my name Melanie. The only time I ever heard the full Melanie was when I was in trouble as a kid. So if my hubby calls me that...I get really mad. I tell everyone my name is Mel now...don't bother with the full name as I can handle Mel.
I used to ponder what it would be like to be named something else...then realised that I would probably feel the same way about my name if it was anything! I don't think anyone is 100% in love with their names.
I have tried to give my kids names they can approve of for the rest of their lives. Nothing too trendy or misspelt or old fashioned. Think I did ok but only time will tell I guess!

I like my name, especially my middle name, Shea. But "Tracy" was pretty common in the 70's, and it's also a boy's name, though mine's spelled with an 'i' so it's obviously feminine. My mom told me once she almost picked Aubrey. I'd go back and whisper, "Aubrey Shea."

My parents named me what is traditionally more of a boy's name, and this has caused some confusion over the years.
Guess I would have chosen a more feminine name.

My parents called me Karen and I absolutely hate the name because no-one in Israel is capable of saying it correctly. i would have loved to be called nathaly or something like that.
