fact one: they lost the championship round with shaq still playing for them

fact two: on that round, they lost 3-1. that's uncharacteristic of a defending champion who still has the heart to win

the real cause of the laker's misery is kobe. if he and shaq hadn't had that feud, they probably would still be playing together, and winning championships together.

Dear Carin C,

It all depends on who else was still there. i think people forget about some of the other key players that were instrumental to those Laker championships.

Guys like Robert Horry, Brian Shaw, Rick Fox, Derek Fisher, who have that championship pedigree and played over their heads for stretches of time. For example: Horry matching up with Webber, Wallace, and Duncan during those championship runs or Fox playing D' on Stojakovich and Scottie Pippen. B. Shaw hitting big shots, and D. Fish too...

Obviously the Lakers would be a much better team with Shaq and Kobe- but if Shaq looked like he did this year- i don't know. For what the Lakers have from the Shaq trade- Kwame and Lamar- obviously better with Shaq. But still, i don't know that the Lakers would have enough overall talent without the right role players to win it all.

no.

shaq wasn't getting any better. he was declining in LA. kobe and shaq would still have their beefs and the problem at this point would have gotten a lot worse. (maybe the NBA's version of tupac and biggie) the other guys would have still been mediocre. something needed to change when shaq left.

if they could've checked their egos and played together then they would've been unstoppable but that didn't happen even when they had the mailman and the glove to take the stress off. in a perfect world the birds would be singing all the time ... but we're not in a perfect world.

no..
shaq is not getting better as his head is getting bigger.
they can't even fulfill their promise of bringing Miami a
back to back championship.

past is past...
shaq has few more years to prove that he is still the big diesel and kobe is still in his half-way to show his worth
in the NBA's hall of fame.
