lets see 4256 Rose in 23 seasons
Ichiro
Japan 8 years 1278 in the majors he would have had about 285 more games on his full seasons, 50 per year in 94-96 and 45 per year 97-99 or slighly more the 2 full season so 180 x 2 = 360 extra hits for a total of
1563
US total 6+ years 1386
2949 hits = -1307
if he plays 5-7 more years he would have pass Rose.
I use the ave between 94-00 and up'd it from 177 to 180 for an even number for Japan.
His US ave is 225 in 6 years, so if he ave it for six would be about the same, if you add 8 it would be 1800 + so he could do it in 5.

He would have had to get 200 hits for 20 years in order to crack 4,000. Noone has the committment to play for that long any more, when youre getting paid that kind of money theres no point to sacraficing your body day in and day out. Not to mention the fact that Ichiro's hitting ability is all about bat speed, which has a tendency to slow down once you hit about 35. So unless he hires Barry Bonds as a personal trainer, i dont seen Ichiro playing another more than 5 more years in the bigs. Pete's record will never be broken.

Ichiro has a distinctive body type -- wiry, muscular without being muscle-bound, very lean -- that could let him play a long, long time; kinda like Rickey Henderson. And he's got skills that probably won't deteriorate badly unless he falls off a metaphoric cliff. I think he'll get to 3000 hits just in his MLB career, and honestly, 4000 isn't inconceivable, though obviously a huge stretch prediction, as there's only been two players in history to get that far.
But were he to reach 4k, then catching Rose is a matter of pride. One does not climb 29,000 feet up Everest and decide not to bother with the last 28.
And y'know what? I'd LOVE to see him do it. Many "fans" are making waaaaay too much noise over Bonds' assault on Aaron's home run mark. Well, I'd be tickled sick to see Rose get pushed off the one pedestal his adoring legions of deluded fans keep putting him atop. Not that it would make any difference to Rose's legacy, that's fixed, but it might shut up his "he's suffered enough" supporters. Ha ha ha.

He would have to get 200 hits for 21 seasons. That is insane. Would he of had a shot..sure, but I think he would of fallen short of it. I just don't know if his body would hold up long enought to do it. Ichiro is a great hitter, but players don't play as long as they used to...

Probably, but baseball is full of what ifs. If not for the war where great, great players fought for their country, if not for Harvey Haddix giving up an unearned run after 12 perfect innings to lose, if not for arthritis in Sandy Koufax's arm, if not for Babe pitching for five years, if not for Ken Griffey getting injured again and again and again, .................................
That is just the way of things.
