while i admire Steinbeck, and his works, and i do think he had a great insight into American life ,, i do not agree with this statement,,,,,,,, there are/have been great collaborations,,,,,,, sometimes the meeting of two minds can complement each other,,,,,, and "work off " each other in order to create,,,,,, also the putting together of individual components,, can create something great,, such as in a musical,,,,, the individual music, the choreography, the singers and dancers,, the costumes etc etc,, each one may be good individually,,,,, but the ultimate creation comes from the meeting and working together of the parts
i think this statement of his is an example of something i believe strongly in,, someone may be fantastic, and have great insight, yet that doesnt make them correct always, or always right across the board on everything
also, those who have invented, became famous, during his time, were viewed as individuals, and the creation as solely theirs,, yet we are often finding out now,,,, that wasnt always true,,,,,,,, they pulled from others work,,,,, or in some cases actually had others helping them,,,,,,
