Because the average American diet is so lacking in fiber that the natural process of the movement breaking off high in the colon and sliding all the way out cleanly does not happen with most people. So, instead, it comes out partially and then needs to get chopped off by the sphincter which then creates a mess. If you don't then hop in the shower with a wash cloth and soap and water, you get marks.
Personally, I'm a freak about it. First, I get enough fiber that it's generally clean but even with that, I only go in the morning (every morning before the shower like clockwork) and then taek a shower.
I mean, I can't imagin being with a woman and you are not clean back there. Especially the crazy stuff that I like to get into with girls (licking everywhere, getting licked everywhere).
People need to eat more fiber and just practice better cleanliness back there in general.

Are you ready for something disgusting?
Many years ago, I worked in a laundry place where we did the customers laundry. 70%--75% of ALL men, doctors, lawyers, teachers, fishermen, librarians, whatever--ALL 70% had skid marks. I knew what they did for a living b/c it was an upscale place & we had to know the customers very well. Those guys didn't wipe their butts. Weekly. So revolting. Conversely, about 15--20% of women had blood or skid marks. GROSS.

I find it very strange that so many women,finding men in general to be so disgusting,are in the Men's health category.I know it is open for all but,I wouldn't go onto a site where I found the people there to be so loathsome.Just an observation.

because we like to scratch our asses. if women scratched their asses they'd have skidmarks too. I'm talking about really getting it up there. Not just one of those casual pats.

Its usually caused by scratching, Or Fart Art or Prairie dogging the Poop (pushing it out and Sucking it back in) will cause it.

Tell me about it.
My man says it's because he doesn't like going to the toilet outside!
He wears all white underwear so it's a bugger to wash normally, I've tried bleach and Vanish but sometimes still doesn't come out!
