If the airport is a weather gathering site in the US, you can get daily wind direction and speed at www.noaa.gov and look for climatological data.
If you are talking about current data, the meteorological office that serves pilots will have more accurate data from modern instruments than the wind sock. The purpose of the wind sock is to tell pilots without radios the direction and magnitude of the wind (by the dip of the tail of the sock) when they are circling the field preparing to land so they know which way to land and what is the cross wind. Of course, radios are required at major airports.
