it really doesnt matter.

anyway, hermit crabs need sands, rocks, hiding places, plants, and it would also be best if you could supply them with bigger shell when they grow.
h.crabs are omnivorous, they'll eat almost anything you gave 'em. but make sure the food is sinking, cause they can't swim up to the surface.
keeping the tank clean will also works great! they're not that dirty, so i guess ther will be less algae and stains on the water...

good luck ^_^

Yes, but you cannot fill the whole tank with water. You have to have some water and some sea. I think Petco sells Hermit Crab care books, so look there.

That's really not enough room to keep a land hermit crab properly. They need to have a substrate deep enough to completely bury themselves when the molt. Plus they need to have two water dishes they can get into to keep their gills wet - one for freshwater, one for saltwater. They like a place to hide during the day, plus some climbing stuff for exercise. They should also have a small bowl for their food, and some extra shells for when the molt and move into a larger one. Hermits can get several inches in size, and despite their name, they do better when they're kept in a group.
