Well,

Ahmedabad-baroda (Express Highway)
Baroda-surat
Surat-Vasai
Vasai-Kalyan (mumbai Byepass)
Kalyan-Pune (Express Highway)

Hope, it will help you out.

What about my Point (Star)?

Few questions of my own before I suggest: Which vehicle? Who will drive? Time of departure? Condition of vehicle? Total number of passengers? Please think about all these before you start. Safety must be your motto above everything else. From that angle, it will be far safer for you to travel by train. It's most comfy and safest.

For road travel:
You can travel on Ahmedabad-Mumbai national highway. Travel till Kaman Phata just after Vasai Naka in Maharashtra. Good wide road which will connect you to old agra road in Bhiwandi. Ask for Anjur Phata, which will take you to new Nasik highway. Ask for Mumbra and get onto the Mumbra - Panvel bypass. It's crowded so drive cautiously. Near Panvel, take to the new, spacious Mumbai-Pune express highway for Pune.

Note: One more road will take you to Panvel. From Ghodbunder to Thane to Juinagar to Panvel. It's a very wide and spacious road but please DO NOT take to this road. Lots of repair / expansion work is going on. There's a chance that you may be caught in a massive traffic jam (depending upon time). May take almost 3 to 5 hours to clear some times.

Happy journey to you.

Hi,
If you have a good vehicle(ford ikon, accent, etc.) via mumbai is better.Ahmedabad to pune via mumbai is through out a four lane road. The chances of accident are less. You will get an average speed of 65km per hr.Also the chances of road robbery are remote in this stretch.

The road via dhule-nasik is two lane road for a majority length. This road is long overdue for four laning and is generally flooded with overloaded goods trucks. You will not get an average speed of more than 55km per hr.There have been incidences of road robbery in this stretch.
