PART ONE: Clarksville

Matt was just entering his office, when Luke Laposky came running up, telegram in hand. "Good afternoon, Marshal Dillon. Got a gram for you...straight from the Governor himself!" ( For some reason Luke enjoyed shortening words.) Matt thanked him for it and sat down at his desk. He moved aside the latest wanted posters, and read the message:

U.S. Marshal Matt Dillon. Stop. Go at once to Clarksville. Stop. Your testimony needed in Josh Drakelin case.Stop.

Matt decided to get a beer and then head on back to Sunshine's place and pack. As he entered the LongBranch, the saloon owned and run by his former girlfriend Miss Kitty Russell, he saw Kitty at a corner table. Matt got a beer and sat down by her. Kitty:"Don't worry. There's coffee in the mug....nothing else." Matt smiled. Kitty had been hitting the booze very hard since their split and Matt was relieved that MAYBE she was coming to her senses. "You know, Matt......
(5)One of these days you'll realize that you made a mistake.
When that day happens, you'll regret ever leaving me for that trollop from Virginia. I'm (4)I'm movin' on, Matt.
Matt:" Number one, Sunshine is not a trollop. Number 2......do you mean you're leaving Dodge?"
Kitty:" No. You don't have THAT much power over me. No.....I mean that emotionally, I'm getting on with my life." Matt agreed that was a excellent decision,finished up his beer and left.

When he got out to Sunshine's place he saw her to the side of the sweet little cottage they shared. He had wanted to surprise her, but her dog, Daisie Dixie, started barking.
Sunshine:"(1) Hello stranger. Don't I know you from somewhere?" Matt scooped her up in his arms as he patted Daisie Dixie's head.
Matt:" Stranger? Wasn't that you I woke up with a rather loving jolt, this morning? They kissed. Let me tell you right now, dear reader...they kiss ALL THE TIME....better get used to it!

Matt told her of his pending trip. Sunshine made a sorrowful face as Matt stroked her hair. Matt:" But don't you worry any, my little SunnyMac. With (2)Someone like you waiting for me, I'll leave Clarksville the MOMENT I am able."
Sunshine played with the curls that peeked out from under his hat. Sunshine:" I'll be (3)Making believe you're with me all the while. And you know how good my imagination is."
Mtt:" Do I EVER. Why just this morning you thought up a brand new move I don't think the rest of the world has even heard of! You are such a (6)Hard lovin' woman!"

"Hello Stranger!" Comes the calming voice, from a few feet away. He turns, slowly to see an old friend. "I never expected to see, someone like you, here." Without giving the aquaintance a chance to speak. She offers, "You still puttin up with that `Hard Lovin' Woman?"
Taken back by the frank talk. He gains his emotions, and says, "Naw! I walked away from that Tramp, years ago. She wasn't what I was needed. So I decided, I'm movin' on".
He pauses, and glances up & down the sleek figure that he once knew. "So what you been doin' with yourself. Still makin' believe that you don't need anyone?"
"Oh, now, you don't know what you're talkin' about. I need someone. I just ain't found him, yet." she confesses, with a slight giggle in her words.
"It's gonna happen. One of these days? But it's gonna happen".
The two, former Friends. Go their seperate ways. The Guy, a Beat Cop. Lookin' to make the City safe. The Gal, just a Poor, Mis-guided Soul. Hustlin' to make a Buck.
