If you don't show and they have proof that you received your summons then a bench warrant will be issued. And you will be held for attempt of court and you could serve time over it as well as a fine. If you don't want to serve the best thing to do is appear in court with a good excuse and the judge will probably dismiss you. If not you can always make a statement like "If they weren't guilt they wouldn't be up here" and that will be enough to get you dismissed. Or a racial statement work well.
If you are a working person go ahead and serve, The company you work for has to pay you just like you are at work. It is kind of like being paid for sitting on your butt.

Well, if you don't have an "excuse" (i.e. full time employment, other engagement that can't be changed, etc.) and you just "skip", then you could be in trouble. Some penalties are jail time, fines, etc. Usually they will serve you with an order to appear before a judge and explain why you weren't there to serve as required. Then the judge can give a sanction (it could go up to $1000, depending where you live) or jail time. However, usually they will give you one more opportunity to serve jury duty and stay the fine/jail time. If you do the jury duty, you don't pay the fine or do jail time. But, if you fail to do jury duty again, the sanction will be imposed.

A warrant is issued for your arrest on the charge of contempt of court. Avoiding jury duty is simple, as so many reasons are sufficient.

A bench warrant can be issued for your arrest. You could be fined. If it's federal you could really be in deep sh*t.

My question is how to they know it you received the summons. They send it regular mail and if your mail is like mine, they are always losing something.
