Can someone explain what the title means and how it relates to the movie?

Matrix is a table of numbers used in math and computers. "The Matrix" is the nickname they called the computer program that produced a dreamworld reality for humans.

Jordan Maxwell claims that he coined this phrase years before the Wachowski brothers made the movie. Maxwell has a website, check it out, very interesting. There is a great book called "The Matrix and Philosophy" I read it a year or so ago. If you are interested in these movies you might like it also..

the matrix is the "womb" the starting point, a mold, the first, you know, the beggening, somthing that is molded from..all that shiit.
