I've seen a few episodes. Can anyone tell me why it isn't a complete ripoff of "The 4400?"

It's got some similarities, but I can't say that it's a ripoff. I don't see that at all. I've seen both shows and found The 4400 to be an ok show, but it certainly didn't hold my attention that much. Whereas, I find the story line and the acting and the use of the powers in Heros to be much more compelling. I don't really see how you could say that they were that similar, other than on both shows people had powers. But, then there have always been shows with people having powers. The 4400, was sort of based around one small town, it was all as if it was in a made up town and place. Heros is in our time and takes place in real places with real events.

Not 4400, but the last few episodes of Heroes majorly ripped off the storyline from Alan Moore's the Watchmen comic book series.

And in response to the first responder, Sylar DOES have powers. His original (main) power is the ability to Detect how things work, flaws or variations in people and/or objects, and Vampirism or Power Drain - depending on your point of view.

The premise that there are people with extraordinary powers around the world that can save the rest of mankind is very similar, but that can be said for many shows/movies/books. It is a popular premise. They are using the premise in very different ways, with different purposes, backgrounds, and characters.

Have you even seen both shows? They are very different plots and characters, etc.

in 4400, people were abducted by aliens and then returned to earth with powers. in heroes, people are born with powers, expect sylar. sylar wasn't born with powers, the way sylar got his power was cutting off someones head and stealing there brain. and in heroes they have to save the world by saving the cheerleader who can regenerate her health.

There's a big difference; watch the show more and you'll see what I'm talking about.
