Yes, life is racist in the south USA. In some places, it is rural and a way of life, accepted by all. In the cities, you are lucky to work for companies which aren't, and if you can prove your skills, there isn't any racism.
There is some reverse racism in some south (wish to decline to name) cities, and it goes from the politicians to the police, to the local daycare. It actually changes every few blocks in some neighborhoods, and is grouped into West End, and North End, etc.
Within these racist groups in the south USA, there is also the Confederate racism, which is regional, rather than race. This can be interesting, and I have found some very nice cities, and stayed out of very nice places in outlying areas where they acknowledge both the regional and color differences.
I don't think this will ever change on the East Coast, and the West Coast is different, although when I did see the fence going up, it has become something on the West Coast, also..

I'm sure but I never had a problem going down South. You gotta assert authority. If people think you're weak, they'll surely disrespect you. Eye contact is important. Let people know you're not a wimp. Most racists aren't the neo-Nazi Skinheads who will attack you in hoards and stomp your head against the curb. Most just talk their crap among their friends and families and keep their mouths shut when around the race they despise. UNLESS you give them the notion that you're weak. Then, they'll try to start trouble.

Just work out and take kickboxing. Also get your CCW permit and put the fear of God in the hearts of those bastards!

While it is impossible to generalize an entire region of the country, spanning multiple states, it depends on your perspective. As a whole, the southern US states are still in some way influenced by their Confederate roots, yet still includes a large minority population (brought there due to unsavory reasons). Despite the minority population, the extreme views of some southerners may indeed outweigh the completely normal views of many others. The south as a whole is not racist, but some southerners may be more inclined to be racist than the rest of the country.

It doesn't matter how many f****** times we answer this question the media still portrays us as racist and others have fun with their safe stereotypes. It’s been my experience it’s mostly about age and personality over anything else

I have lived in the South my whole life and it's very, very rare that I actually see or hear anything racist (can’t read minds) save a few old people but even most of them are getting politically correct and often limit most of their complaints to saying that “black people are so mean nowadays” and it's mostly that black people are racist against them however this is about as bad as it gets that I’ve seen. Now when I say old people I mean people older than baby boomers that were adults before the Civil Rights movement and these are mostly retired. The average age of an American is about mid thirties so you can see this is more of an extreme. With most younger people- including well outside the average age the answer is NO!!!! I can’t think of the last time a young white Southerner said anything racist although it might depend on what you consider racist. For example, I do consider Ebonics jabs as racist since black people are NOT more incorrect than others but I don’t consider an isolated Confederate flag as racist since I mostly associate it with Southern culture like food, music, racing, and flea markets (since that’s how I mostly was around it) but I’m not saying that it should be anything but private. If anything I’d say Yankees from certain places have been the most racist in terms of people of average age but a lot of it is because Southerners tend to be a little bit nicer and also a higher percentage tend to be religious and have a strong conscience about being bad. Many Yankees just make up their own beliefs and are more likely to excuse their own weaknesses but again, it depends on the person much more than place.

The main thing I can tell you is that (hand on my heart) I’ve NEVER EVER seen so much racism as I do on this site (esp. knowing this place is filled with so many young people) save a few times on BET.com where they either blame white people for lots of things OR the whole black men/women thing. It’s mostly in the Internet where I’ve seen so much but maybe it’s because people can be anonymous?

Another thing I will say is that when I talk to many black people and read their comments on the Internet the vast majority say racism is a human problem and almost never say it’s about the South nowadays even when asked. Most seem to think it exists in all parts of this country but it’s “different” with the South vs. other parts however the reasons for differences even vary. I tend to believe what they say as I think they should know. You also have to keep in mind that for every black person that leaves the South two come in. Do you really think black people are so stupid as that? Just ignore the games people play and apply common sense. There are many famous African Americans who are either proud to be from the South or like the South very much so if the South was so racist would they just ignore it?

The overwhelming majority of people that say the South is racist are the ones who WANT to think it is: disgruntled Yankees and die hard liberals who are angry about the South becoming more powerful and cling to safe stereotypes. If you look around enough you’ll see them making the same kind of comments about black people and others too though. The South is rapidly becoming homogenized but to many it's not fast enough so they just get mad and say with no basis in truth that we are more racist. My fav is when they say there are “stories” about how bad it is and try to pick on the easy targets like the Deep South and the rural South. Just look at the commenters on here: how many are black saying it’s bad? I have lived in these places and I know for a fact we are all hornless humans. The great thing about the South is that it is one of the few places in the modern world that actually has a significant amount of African based culture in the MAINSTEAM. Nice thing but I have no clue if we will be able to maintain it in the pressure to be like one big McDonalds.

I think there are still racists everywhere. Predominately in the south that is true. My last boyfriend was from New Jersey and he was definitely prejudice against blacks, Mexicans, and Jews. I was surprised too. He would make racist comments and then apologize to me for saying them. HUH? Just don't say them if you know they are wrong.

oh yes. but if you think it is confined to the south then you are sadly mistaken. I really personally believe that Yankees are more racist. the neighborhoods up north are much more segregated than down here.

Oh yes, but it's mostly at night. Like they have their times to act all "non" racist. One of my friends dad lives in the south, and he told us stories. It's sad. There will be racism every where you go, not only in the southern U.S.

Does a bear crap in the woods?

The KKK still has their stupid rally every year in its birthplace, Pulaski, TN. Makes me so proud to be from here ------- not.

Remember that racism isn't whites against another race, it's any one or race against any other race. I'd say it's everywhere and many races are guilty of it.

Yes. South, north, east and west. Racism doesn't discriminate geographically.
