say you tie a ball to a piece of string and begin to swing it over your head. as the ball circles you it breaks away from the string and flies off. the path the ball takes is the tangent to the circle.
or when a lawn mower discharges clippings fron the side chute. the clippings are travelling on a tangent to the blade.
