I have a Whisper Power Filter (in a 10 gallon tank) that works fine. When the current cartridge gets old, can I get a bio-filter cartridge? Because I really want one with the bacteria because every website says that bacteria will work the best. If you need to know the fish list, it's a pleco (~ 3 in), 2 zebra danios, 1 small guppy, 1 ghost shrimp, and 1 red wag platy.

If the cartridge will fit..it should be ok. They no longer make the ones I need for my filter so you have to get creative

The kind of cartridge doesn't matter. If you want to encourage a bacteria colony in you filter get one of the Bio-wheel types. The bacteria you wish to cultivate can only do their job when they are attached to the solid surfaces in you aquarium system. This includes the filter, the gravel and the sides of the glass. Other options would be a sponge filter (or a filter with a sponge in it,like an Aqua-clear) In this case you clean the sponge in water from the tank while doing a water change(20%to 30%). The one thing that is important to the bacteria colony is Oxygen.Your Whisper is a pretty good oxygenator,so if the tank has been running for a while(5 to 6 weeks) you will already have a healthy colony. Sounds like a nice tank, and not overcrowded. Learn how to keep the gravel clean and how to do a propper water change and your fish will do well.-----Good luck.-----PeeTee
