Okay, disregard any of the people that suggested a chick flick....no good movies like that are out now. A rent worthy movie ......really depends on what you like but i'm gonna go with Alpha Dogs....yea it has Justine Timberlake but it is a badass movie.
As far as theaters, Fracture is really worth the price of admission. Spiderman is not....at all. Nothing new in theatres is worthy of your money at the moment besides 300 and Fracture. Fracture is a good thriller, like Silence of the Lambs.

A lot of OLD movies get passed up at the video store. Movies like Lilies of the Field, Citizen Kane, Singin in the Rain, Schindler's List (not old but excellent), Casablanca, Amadeus, The Godfather, Gone With The Wind, Lawrence of Arabia.
There's a big long list here- http://cinepad.com/awards/awards_1-50.htm
There are also 50-100 and 101+
So check them out. You'll be glad you did.
As far as a more recent movie... I really liked Children of Men,

Double Indemnity- 1944 version with Barbara Stanwick. It is classic film noir/ detective. Enjoy.
Devil in a Blue Dress: neo noir starring Denzel Washington.

The Indiana Jones trilogy (soon to be quad-rilogy), Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, in that order.
