You absolutely did the right thing. This isn't something that should be joked about, and if he was, shame on him. It's a federal offense, and no one should be that stupid to joke about something so serious. I hope they nail his a**. He sounds unbalanced, and needs to be looked at. Think of the lives you may have saved. Good for you and your friend for getting involved!!!

The only thing you did that was wrong was not telling an authority figure as soon as possible. Today with all of the violence in school even jokes can not be ignored. You may think someone is joking around but then you find out they did it for real. Telling a teacher, parent or the police is the only thing to do.

I think most schools are going to zero tolerance on that issue. Experience has shown them that the kid who makes threats one day can escalate them after that.

If that kid was joking with you and told you he was planning to kill you would you take that as an enjoyable joke? If not then you know how the other kids on his list feel about being on his hit list.

that's definitely the right thing to do. joke or not, that's something that needs some attention. the kid might have some kind of problem psychologically. and if he's joking, he can be taught that those kinds of things are not to be joked about.

you can never be too sure, so informing the proper people to inform is the best way to go

You guys definitely did do the right thing by telling an adult. If he was joking about having a gun then he seriously needs to check into a mental institute.

Yes, you did the right thing. You don't joke around when you talk about wiping out/injuring other people. That's usually a good indicator that something is indeed wrong with you.
