what makes the port light [ left side ] green? the bulb, or the case or the fuse?

everyone is correct...its a colored lens for both ships and aircraft ( that way you only have to carry white bulbs as spares,as aft and range lights on ships are white......)

but I am shocked no one has mentioned that the port light is RED and the Starboard light green........cause they are!

The lens. Anything else yould reduce the brightness of the light. And a fuse can't affect it at all - all it does is make sure that a potential short circuit doesn't set fire to the wiring (and ultimately, the whole craft.)

Oh the SH60B Seahawk helicopter, and on the S-3B Viking... the two aircraft I used to fly in and help maintain... the color is from the LENS rather than the bulb.

For both Green and Red

Usually the lens, the odd time the bulb may be coated but that reduces the brilliance
