Why is that? Why have some organisms remained relatively unchanged over the years...except in size?

They don't change because they are very well adapted to their environment, therefore there is no pressure for them to change.

Because they are so well adapted.....crocodiles are the best killers on this planet today and have been unchanged for millions of years.

They are obviously well adapated to their enviroment, or lack the capability to change. Change only occurs when there is a need and the conditions are right. (i.e. mutations, natural selection, bottleneck effect, founder effect).
