Alright. Let's start with the left-hand side because it looks nastier.

-(-2x) is the same as 2x (two negatives = positive)
-(-5x-1) is the same as 5x+1 for the same reason.

Now you have 2x+5x+1. That simplifies to 7x+1.

Now for the right-hand side.
5*(.75x +11) is the same as 5*.75x + 5*11 or (15/4)x +55.

Putting it back together, we have this equation:

7x+1=(15/4)x+55

Now:

7x=(15/4)x+54 (subtract one from both sides)
(13/4)x=54 (subtract (15/4)x from both sides)
x= 54/(13/4) (divide both sides by 13/4)

There you are!

Is the second hal of the equation 5 3/4x + 11?
1. Remember the rule, subtracting a negative is like adding a positive. so, 2x+5x+1=5 3/4x +11
2. combine like terms on the left, and change the mixed number on the right to an improper fraction, 7x+1=23/4x + 11
3. subtract 1 from both sides and multiply both sides by 4 to get rid of fraction, 28x=23x + 40
4. subtract 23x from both sides , 5x=40
5. divide both sides by 5, x=8

5 three fourth is (23/4)x

therefore from the given eq
2x+5x+1=23/4x+11

multiplying by 4 throughout
we get
8x+20x+4=23x+44
therefore
28x-23x=44-4
5x=40
therefore x=8

-(-2x)-(-5x-1)=(5 3/4) x +11
2x+5x+1= 23x/4+11
7x = 23x/4+10
28x = 23x +40
5x=40
x=8

-(-2x)=2x
-(-5x-1)=5x+1
LHS=2x+5x+1=7x+1
RHS=(23/4)x+11
7x-(23/4)x=11-1
(5/4)x=10
x=(10*4)/5=8
x=8
