Nails turn yellow like that when you wear a dark polish for too long. I would keep dark polish on for no longet than a week, and then give your nails a week of no polish. This will give them a break. To get rid of the yellowness on nails, soak them in lemon juice for awhile. To prevent the yellowness in the first place, apply a base coat before applying the color.

Hope this helps! =]

To avoid getting yellow nails, I put on a coat of clear or semi-clear nail polish first, and then the color. I wear nail polish all the time because my nails break otherwise. I think it's a myth that you have to leave your nails free of polish for certain periods of time. I've tried doing that, and the only thing that happened is my nails broke and tore and looked ugly.

You should be able to wear your nail polish for as long as you like (provided that it isn't chipping). It seems like you are wearing your nail color without a base coat. You should apply the base coat before the nail polish and that will prevent the staining problem.

For the already stained nails, soak them in a 1/2 cup of water and juice from a lemon for about 15 minutes, weekly.

You definitely shouldn't have it on for tooooo long. The nail polish stops the nail from breathing, which then causes the nail to turn yellow and basically die. Sounds scary, but this won't happen for a while, depending on your health of course! Conclusion? Let them breathe once in a while. So, say about.. every few weeks? :)

As soon as you begin to see your nail polish receding from your nail, take the polish off. Also, don't us polish remover with Acetone. You can also stop wearing colored polish for a while and just use clear polish or nothing at all. Hope this helps!

Using a base coat can help. But what helps the most is using a formaldehyde free nail polish. Yes, can you believe almost all nail polish contains formaldehyde, gross isn't it?

Try one that is better for YOU and the environment. Too many of these things do not need to be in our products!

The reason your nails are turning a yellowish color is because you are not using a basecoat. The basecoat protects your nails from the color in the nail polish. If you will learn to use a clear basecoat this won't happen. It doesn't matter how long you leave nail polish on.....it's safe.
