I don't know what you mean by self-inflicted. Iraq was not a blunder. It was a planned strike against a threat to the interests of the US that was approved nearly unanimously by a vote of Congress.

Which part was a blunder do you think? Hillary Clinton and John Kerry making the case for WMD's on the senate floor? Democrats voting for military action and now trying to back out for political reasons? The swift justice brought to Saddam and freeing the country? The elections? All the damage done to Al Queda? Post Saddam progress now better than anytime under Saddam? The Iraqi govt forming a cabinet and showing signs of progress forming armies and security? Northern Iraqis cities have a murder rate lower than our cities?
I think you need to stop getting your news from only the liberal media, which, if you listened to only them, would conclude that nothing good ever happens in Iraq, its just all violence and mayham.

Failure to plan post-war. We had a sketchy plan at best, didn't have enough troops, disbanded the Iraqi army, didn't provide enough support after the invasion... I could go on and on.
I'm a Construction Manager by trade - and I actually was selected to go to Kosovo post-conflict with a contracting company (I turned it down) - but I got to see the post-construction plans there. If the US had done half a job as they had in Kosovo - things would have turned out better.

I guess Saddam could have been more transparent and let the inspectors where they wanted to go, or provided evidence that he destroyed his WMD's, or not fired at UN aircraft patrolling no fly zones, or not violated multiple UN resolutions....
Yeah, I guess it was self inflicted, by Saddam.

Well, I'm not sure you could pick out a "worse" mistake. There seem to be a ton.
Not so much self-inflected though, more pre-determined (for no real reason except to finish daddy's business).
