make sure the mower is turned off and the key is out of the ignition. lower the mower deck completly down if this is a newer model there should be pull pins on the left and right side of the deck, these have springs on them and are easy to pull allowing the deck to drop. Once the back of the deck is down shift the deck forward to remove the front holding bar. tension springs on the pullies will allow for easy removal. unless it has worn off most decks will have a diagram sticker showing the belt posistion. If you are still unsure about the belt call Mtd and their customer rep. can provide help. Also take your old belt with you when buying a replacement and match the 6 digit mtd numbers to assure the correct fit.

Usually, you flip the mower on it's side after you've drained out any gas in the tank, support the mower as best you can so it doesn't wobble around, see how the belt wraps around the various pulleys...draw a picture if necessary, don't go from memory...and then, remove the belt--you may have to adjust a tensioner pulley or make sure the blade lever is not engaged--and replace with the new belt. Check any adjustments and you're done........ except that now, there's no excuse to not mow the lawn...@#$%*&#$% Sorry
