how does drain cleaners work in terms of NaOH? and what metal particles are in the drain cleaners?

Drains are often full of human hair and the like. These substances are slightly acidic. So it makes sense that a drain cleaner will work by using an alkaline such as NaOH. It neutralizes the clog and makes it easier to dissolve.
