Some people won't be able to handle this, but a nation
wide poll found San Francisco to be the friendliest.
I think one of the reasons was because they had the
best accommodations for people & for their pets.
Unfortunately, I can't remember the other criteria they
used for rating.

Well, I've only lived in a few (Chicago, Los Angeles, Orlando, a couple of small towns in Indiana, Daytona Beach, San Diego, and Colorado Springs) but my favorite city by far is Colorado Springs.
Right up against Pike's Peak, the countryside is gorgeous and the air is so clean. The people are very friendly and the city itself is clean and well kept up. The weather is amazing, and if you live there you carry all weather accessories in your trunk at all times of the year, mountain weather is wild. I've been there and seen a snowstorm in July, only to have it be 80 degrees two days later and it all melts. There's just a feeling about that city that never leaves you once you've lived there. I like the military presence there, there are four bases plus the Air Force Academy. You meet folks from all over the world there, but still get to enjoy a small town feel.
Sigh, really miss it.

Chicago 1st.
Then many others.
Chicago is filled with history and culture. Chicago's, in-house economy has always done well when compared to the rest of the US. Whatever leisure one desires can found here save skiing.
The women are absolutely gorgeous. The men are well groomed. One must always bring their "A" game to the table to compete. Although racism is alive and well, here, one can rise above that and run in any circle one chooses. As for sports, live theater, jazz venues, restaurants, no other city can come close to the variety Chicago has to offer.
As an international hub, Chicago is a cleaner, kinder, less crowded version of NYC.

The best city in the US is San Francisco. I Left My Heart in San Francisco when I went there. The natural beauty of the place and the kind people were the factors that I considered for my choice coupled with the fantastic views on Golden Gate and Fishermen's Wharf.

New York City is the capitol of the world. I live in Baltimore now, but i grew up in ny and the city has this feeling in the air like it is alive or something. there is nothing like it.
I've been to Chicago a few times and that town is awesome, but NY is #1 by far.

Santa Cruz / Capitola / Soquel /Aptos
All the cities on the northern portion of the Monterey bay.
90 miles from SF, "over the hill" from Silicon valley. More of a central coast climate. Day trips to SF, and jobs-a-plenty in the valley.

According to Forbes as far as job opportunity it's Raleigh-Cary, N.C. They based their survey on employment/unemployment statistics and salaries.
Last night I caught the tail end of another survey and it listed Gainesville, FL as number one all around best city.
