We want to be around people like us because it takes the pressure off. We don't have to be on guard, we can relax.
"Fit in" ... with the "deluxe" crowd? Lots of people might think that for a while, but they've got their problems too. For sure.

Didn't you notice the screen name? "I color outside the lines"...meaning, I hate doing what everyone else does. I'm my own person. I march to the beat of a different drum. I think for myself. I do my own thing. I don't need others to label me or identify me. I am who I am and I'm happy with that. Conformity sucks.

Society is just that way, but after a while, you realize life is too short and you should just be who you are. No matter who likes it or not. I wasted so many years trying to be something I wasnt. I refuse to waste anohter second doing it.

Well, humans are social animals, so - they want to be able to be around other humans. Sometimes those other humans have weird rules. The human can try to adapt to them, or change them, or find other humans to be around.

it's human nature. we want to be part of the group: its our natural state, it's "safe". Alas, it can and does lead us astray and cause great despair in those who do not fit.
