The first unified Chinese state was established by the Qin Dynasty in 221 BC, though there were the mythical dynasties of Xia and Shang that began somewhere between 2,000 BC to 3,000 BC (which is many Chinese say the Chinese culture is 5,000 years old).

The first Japanese Emperor in recorded history is Emperor Ojin who ruled from 270 AD to 310 AD. The first mythical Emperor was Emperor Jimmu, dated at 660 BC.

Regardless of written history or mythical, the Chinese dynasties predated Japan.
