Hello,

I use Itunes, to the tune (no pun intended) of over 3000 songs. Recently, my friend computer crashed, and he lost 500 songs. I got to thinking, and realized that I really need to back up my songs. Is there an efficient and cost-effective way to do this? I will not burn CD-R's, because that is a lot of money. Perhaps I can burn the songs onto a CD as files (but not files that can be played on a stereo).

Please help, and give detailed instructions, as I am not extremely computer savvy.

Thanks

you could buy an external hard drive ( i recently got a 160 GB on for like $70 at my local best buy) and use that. not only can it back up your music, but it can back up all important files on your computer. also they connect through USB port or firewire port so they are easy to set up. some come with software that automatically back up certain folders with one click of the mouse.

go to newegg.com or tigerdirect.com and search for external hard drive and see if on fits your fancy

There is a few ways to do this. I used to have iTunes and the file types that it works with is AAC and MP3 and not sure what else. I found out that WMA format takes up a third of the space as MP3. I originally got a deal on an external Hard drive, at 40 GB's it was around $70.00. With this you can back up nearly all of your information. I recently discovered DVD-R's. Each disc holds up to 4.7 GB's, I was able to put all of music (about 3000 songs in WMA format) plus my pictures and other small documents onto 3 discs. I used to have all of music backed up on CD-R's and it took nearly 30 discs!!! Try the DVD-R's

You can backup the data files to a CD-R. iTunes File menu > Backup to Disc and Restore from them.

Backing up your iTunes library to CD or DVD
You can easily back up your iTunes library, playlists, and iTunes Store purchases for safekeeping. To reduce the number of discs needed for a backup, iTunes can perform incremental backups (only items added or changed since the last backup).

To burn a DVD, your computer must have a SuperDrive. Some third-party DVD burners may also work. (For more information, click the first link below.)

To create backup CDs or DVDs:
Choose File > "Back Up to Disc" and then select your options.
Insert a blank disc (CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, or DVD-RW).
Click Back Up.
iTunes burns the number of items that fit on one disc, and then asks you to insert subsequent discs to continue burning the remaining files. Don't eject a disc while a backup is in progress.

To restore backed-up files, insert a backup disc, choose File > "Back Up to Disc," and then click Restore.

Spoken programs purchased from the Audible website are not backed up.

Discs you create using the iTunes backup feature can be used only to restore; they can't be played in a CD or DVD player.

unfortunatly no, Deleating the music in basic terms removes it out of your Itunes library. I accodently did this as immediately as, and that i expected to ought to desire to pay for it returned, yet as immediately as I went to acquire the music returned it pronounced I allready did. And in order that which you recognize, all provided subject concerns (songs, apps, movies...) will stay in the provided area of Itunes.

Possibly transfuring them over a network to another computer so that you have them on both networks. Also, you may want to try to put them on a flash drive. Another thing that you may or may not want to try is using an FTP server to upload them to.
